Know the Pros and Cons of Botox and Fillers
Common signs of aging include wrinkles and deep lines on your face. If they are starting to bother you, consult with a plastic surgeon and ask about what options are available for you. If you are apprehensive about getting a face lift, don’t worry—there are actually non-invasive ways to “treat” signs of aging, such as Botox and Fillers.
Botox
Botox or Botulinum Toxin is a protein that temporarily relaxes the facial muscles that cause wrinkles and lines. The good thing about getting a Botox shot is that it’s quick and simple, with almost no side-effects. The most that can happen might be a slight swelling and bruising. The biggest drawback to Botox is that it usually wears off after a few months so you’ll need to go back for another round to continue looking young and fresh. Compared to fillers, Botox are definitely cheaper. Just be wary of Botox shots that are too cheap, as they might not meet quality standards.
Fillers
Fillers are used for smoothing wrinkles and folds on the face by adding a bit of volume to the skin. Different types of fillers are offered by plastic surgeons and dermatologists—including collagen, hyaluronic acid, synthetic, or even “natural” fillers (your own fats). Be very careful when choosing fillers as some people are allergic to certain types. Compared to Botox, fillers last for much longer—from 18 months to 24 months. The procedure for getting fillers is pretty similar to getting Botox. Some patients can also experience slight swelling and bruising after the treatment.
To find out if Botox or fillers are for you, set an appointment with your plastic surgeon or dermatologist. They might seem like simple procedures, but if you want to be safe, then it’s best to have them done only by skilled and qualified professionals. Never buy into Botox parties and never get them from spas. As much as possible, stick to reputable clinics and hospitals.
